Should i dump my BF the day before prom?

i have been going out with this boy for 4 months or so, and to be honest i have completely lost intrest in him. we hardly ever talk, and its awkward when we're together. he is really shy, and i wont see him again after prom, so i dont want to do it by text. we have never done anything together (only kiss) what should i do??? :0
