Whattt is with this guy ??!?!?

alright so this guy and I have been talking and weve been on a couple dates. but weve known each other for like over a year now. i like him alot and he told me he liked me and whenever we hang out he is soooo affectionate and is always kissing me and holding my hand. he basically acts like were dating. but when were not together i hardly ever hear from him! like we'll go days without talking sometimes and i dont wanna contact him first because i feel like a girl shouldnt do that alot. what is he thinking? i dont wanna be like just some girl on the side... but i really dont think hes seeing anyone else? and when i do contact him he responds right away and is all flirty.. but what do you think his deal is ? should i ask him what we are? helpp
